Linzhe Jiang 姜麟哲

I am a researcher in surgical robotics and medical AI, currently a visiting student researcher in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Tianjin Union Medical Center, working with Dr. Chunyang Jiang. Observing thoracic surgery has made me interested in how preoperative imaging can help surgeons locate lesions and understand the surrounding anatomy, even as the lung changes shape during surgery.

I also work as a research assistant at the University of Manchester with Dr. Mobarak I. Hoque, where my research includes 3D reconstruction and registration between preoperative imaging and intraoperative video. I completed my MSc in Medical Robotics and Artificial Intelligence at University College London under his supervision. Before that, I studied mechanical engineering as an undergraduate.

More broadly, I am interested in 3D vision and multimodal AI, including vision-language models, and how these methods can help machines understand complex real-world environments. In the longer term, I hope to apply them to image-guided surgical navigation and semi-autonomous endoscope assistance to support surgeons and reduce their workload. I remain open to other applications and approaches. I am applying to PhD programs for Fall 2027.

My long-term interest is trustworthy spatial understanding in surgery: connecting preoperative anatomy to changing intraoperative observations. I work across surgical vision, 3D registration, and multimodal reasoning.
